QUESTION:

How much work is done on the gas in the process shown in Figure EX17.2?

Figure EX17.2

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 2

Our aim is to find the work done by the gas during the process specified in the PV diagram.

The initial volume \(V_{1}=100 \mathrm{~cm}^{3}=0.001 \mathrm{~m}^{3}\)

The final volume \(V_{2}=300 \mathrm{~cm}^{3}=0.003 \mathrm{~m}^{3}\)

The pressure at the given process \(\mathrm{P}=400 \mathrm{kPa}=400 \times 10^{3} \mathrm{~Pa}\)
