Here we have to explain how is the molecular mass of a compound the same as the molar mass, and how is it different.

Similarity between molar mass and molecular mass:-

The term gram molecular mass/ atomic mass and molar mass are used interchangeably.

Gram molecular mass is defined as the sum of the atomic mass of all the constituting atoms which is equal to molar mass.

Let us consider the following example:

We have to calculate the molecular mass of CO2 or we can say molar mass of CO2.

Atomic weight of C = 12 g/mole

Atomic weight of O = 16.00 g/mole

As it is known that, the molecular mass or molar mass can be calculated as the sum of the atomic masses, thus the molar mass of CO2 = 12 g/mole + 2 (16 g/mole)

           = 44 g/mol
