QUESTION: Problem 97P

What mass % of ammonium sulfate, ammonium hydrogen phosphate, and potassium chloride would you use to prepare 10/10/10 plant fertilizer (see Problem 3.140)?

ANSWER:

Solution 97P:

Here, we are going to determine the mass % of ammonium sulfate, ammonium hydrogen phosphate, and potassium chloride which has used to prepare 10/10/10 plant fertilizer .

Step 1:

Calculation of the moles of N, P and K from the 10/10/10 plant fertilizer.

Consider, the mass of the sample =100 g

Then 10:10:10 indicates, 10 g N, 10 g and 10 g

Therefore,

Moles of N =(10 g N) =0.713776 mol N

Moles of =(10 g)) () =0.14090 mol P

Moles of =(10 g ) ()()= 0.21231 mol K
