QUESTION: Problem 52P

Use Table 6.3 or Appendix B to write a balanced formation equation at standard conditions for each of the following compounds: (a) HI; (b) SiF4; (c) O3; (d) Ca3(PO4)2.

ANSWER:

Solution 51P

Here we have to write  a balanced formation equation at standard conditions for each of the following compounds: (a) CaCl2 (b) NaHCO (c) CC14 (d) HNO3.

It is known that the formation equation or  formation reaction is defined as the formation of one mole of compound from its constitute elements at standard states i.e at 1 atm pressure and 25oC. The standard heat of formation () for any elements at standard state is zero.

Step 1

(a)CaCl2

The balanced equation for the formation of one mole of CaCl2 is given below,

Ca (s) + Cl2 (g) → CaCl2 (s)
