QUESTION:

Problem 42E

Covalent Bonding, Electronegativity, and Bond Polarity (Sections)

Arrange the bonds in each of the following sets in order of increasing polarity:

(a) C―F, O―F, Be―F, (b) O―Cl, S―Br, C―P, (c) C―S, B―F, N―O.

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 5

Bond Polarity

The separation of charges (dipole) in a chemical bond due to the difference in electronegativity of the bonded atoms is named the bond polarity.
