QUESTION:

Problem 52P

How would you prepare the following aqueous solutions?

(a)  1.50 kg of 0.0355 m ethanol (C2H5OH) from ethanol and water

(b)  445 g of 13.0 mass % HCI from 34.1 mass % HCl

ANSWER:

Solution 52P

Step 1: (a)

Here, we are going to prepare the following aqueous solution.

Total mass of the solution = mass of solute + mass of solvent.

Mass of solution = = 0.00163 g

Calculate total mass of the solution in grams as follows:

Thus,

Total mass of the solution = (1000 +0.00163 ) g =1000.0016 g

Calculate mass of ethanol as follows:

1.50 × 103 g = 2.45 g

Therefore, the mass of the solvent = (1500 -0.00245) g =1499.99 g

Therefore, 2.45 g of solvent is added to 1499.99 g of water.
