Chapter 13, Problem 136

(choose chapter or problem)

Consider the function \(f(x, y)=\left(x^{2}+y^{2}\right)^{2 / 3}\). Show that

\(f_{x}(x, y)=\left\{\begin{array}{ll}

\frac{4 x}{3\left(x^{2}+y^{2}\right)^{1 / 3}}, & (x, y) \neq(0,0) \\

0, & (x, y)=(0,0)

\end{array}\right\).

Text Transcription:

f(x,y)=(x^2+y^2)^⅔

f_x(x,y)=frac4x3(x2+y^2)^1/3,&(x,y)neq(0,0)0, (x,y)=(0,0)
