The citric acid cycle completes the oxidation of organic molecules, generating many NADH and FADH2 molecules. For each turn of the cycle, two carbons from acetyl CoA are added and 2 CO2 are released; the energy yield is 1 ATP, 3 NADH, and 1 FADH2.
