The non-place-holding digits in a reported measurement are called significant figures.
We apply general rules of significant figures.
1. All nonzero digits are significant figures
2. Interior zero i.e zero between two numbers are significant
3. Trailing zero i.e zero after a decimal point are significant
4. Leading zero i.e zero to the left of the first nonzero number is not significant. They only serve to locate the decimal point .
5. Zero at the end of a number but before a decimal point is ambiguous and should be avoided by using scientific notation.
