QUESTION:

Three beakers contain clear, colorless liquids. One beaker contains pure water, another contains salt water, and another contains sugar water. How can you tell which beaker is which? (No tasting allowed!)

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 2

One beaker contains pure water, another beaker contains salt water, and another beaker contains sugar water. We have to distinguish them without tasting. Distillation is the best process of distinguishing the three liquids or solutions. To distinguish the three solutions of water, salt, and sugar, we have to evaporate or boil each solution until all the water molecules vanish. After completing the evaporation, it is seen that one beaker contains no crystals or residue left under, this must be pure water.
