Silicon tetrafluoride reacts with F_ to produce the hexafluorosilicate ion, SiF6 2_; GeF4 behaves similarly, but CF4 does not. (a) Draw Lewis structures for SiF4, GeF6 2_, and CF4. (b) What is the hybridization of the central atom in each species? (c) Why doesnt CF4 react with F_ to form CF6 2_?
