Problem 1PE

Calculating Molar Mass What is the molar mass of glucose, C6H12O6? Calculate the molar mass of Ca(NO3)2.

Step-by-Step Solution:
Step 1 of 2

Answer : Molar mass : The molar mass is the mass of a given chemical element or chemical compound (g) divided by the amount of substance (mol). The molar mass of a compound can be calculated by adding the standard atomic masses (in g/mol) of the constituent atoms. We have to find the molar mass of glucose.glucose chemical formula is given as C6H12O6. Molar mass of a given substance is equal to its formula weight of a given substance.so first we have to calculate the formula weight of glucose it is expressed in amu where as molar mass is expressed in terms of g/mol. 6 C atoms=6(12.0 amu)=72.0 amu 12 H atoms= 12(1.008amu)=12 amu 6 O atoms=6(16.0 amu)=96.0 amu. =180.0 amu. 23 Glucose has formula weight of 180 amu .1 mole of substance =6.023*10 molecules. So molar mass of the glucose is 180 g/mol .
