Examine the figures (sequential in time) and answer the questions:

a. Which figure represents the point at which equilibrium is reached?

b. How would the series of figures change in the presence of a catalyst?

c. Would there be different amounts of reactants and products in the final figure (vi) in the presence of a catalyst?

ANSWER:

Solution 25EStep 1a)Dynamic equilibrium: For a chemical reaction, the condition in which the rate of forwardreaction equals the rate of reverse reaction. At dynamic equilibrium condition,When equilibrium is reached, the concentrations of remain unchanged because the reactants are depleted at the same rate ofproducts formation. We can observe the concentrations are same in figures (v) and ( vi)- thus weconclude that figure (v) represents the equilibrium condition.
