A thrust bearing for a shaft under an axial load L is designed as a partial spherical

Chapter 6, Problem 6/96

(choose chapter or problem)

A thrust bearing for a shaft under an axial load L is designed as a partial spherical cup of radius r. If the pressure between the bearing surfaces at any point varies according to p = \(p_0\) cos \(\theta\), derive the expression for the torque M required to maintain constant rotational speed. The coefficient of friction is \(\mu\).
