This includes $849 for heating, $553 for appliances, $302 for water heating, $271 for cooling, and $198 for lighting. (a) Assuming a constant annual inflation rate of 2.3%, determine the projected amounts that the average U.S. household will spend on each of the forms of energy listed above in the year 2014. (b) If energy costs increase at an annual rate of 4%, what will the average household spend on each form of energy in 2014?
