A popular fl ow-measurement device in agriculture is the Parshall fl ume [33], Fig. P10.117, named after its inventor, Ralph L. Parshall, who developed it in 1922 for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The subcritical approach fl ow is driven, by a steep constriction, to go critical (y 5 yc) and then supercritical. It gives a constant reading H for a wide range of tailwaters.
