A solar collector consists of a parallel plate channel

Chapter 9, Problem 9.85

(choose chapter or problem)

A solar collector consists of a parallel plate channel thatis connected to a water storage plenum at the bottomand to a heat sink at the top. The channel is inclined?30?from the vertical and has a transparent coverplate. Solar radiation transmitted through the cover plateand the water maintains the isothermal absorber plate ata temperature Ts?67?C, while water returned to thereservoir from the heat sink is at T??27?C. The sys-tem operates as a thermosyphon, for which water flowis driven exclusively by buoyancy forces. The platespacing and length are S?15 mm and L?1.5 m.Assuming the cover plate to be adiabatic with respectto convection heat transfer to or from the water, estimatethe rate of heat transfer per unit width normal to the flowdirection (W/m) from the absorber plate to the water.
