(i) The leading non-zero entry in a row should be further to the right than the leading non-zero entry in the preceding rows.

(ii) Any non-zero rows are placed at the bottom of the matrix.

A matrix can be considered as a Reduced Row Echelon Form if, in addition to the above two condition, the matrix also satisfies the following two conditions

(iii) The first non-zero number in the leading row is the number .

(iv) The leading entry in each row must be the only non-zero number in its column.
