(choose chapter or problem)

In the early 1960s the strange optical emission linesfrom starlike objects that also produced tremendousradio signals confused scientists. Finally, in 1963Maarten Schmidt of the Mount Palomar observatorydiscovered that the optical spectra were just those ofhydrogen but redshifted because of the tremendousvelocity of the object with respect to Earth. The objectwas moving away from Earth at a speed of 50,000km/s! Compare the wavelengths of the normal andredshifted spectral lines for the K and K lines of thehydrogen atom.
