Chapter 7, Problem 7.72

(choose chapter or problem)

The pressure rise, p, across a centrifugal pump of a givenshape can be expressed asp = f(D, , , Q)where D is the impeller diameter, the angular velocity of theimpeller, the fluid density, and Q the volume rate of flow throughthe pump. A model pump having a diameter of 8 in. is tested in thelaboratory using water. When operated at an angular velocity of40 rad/s the model pressure rise as a function of Q is shown inFig. P8.72. Use this curve to predict the pressure rise across ageometrically similar pump (prototype) for a prototype flowrateof 6 ft3/s. The prototype has a diameter of 12 in. and operates atan angular velocity of 60 rad/s. The prototype fluid is also water.
