Phils Pizza Parlor decides to place a thin, rectangular, plasticsign on top of its delivery van as shown in Fig. P9.73. The signmeasures 2 ft by 5 ft. (a) Estimate the extra power required to drivethe van in standard still air at 35 mph if the sign faces forwardrather than sideways. (b) The supports for the sign consist of twosteel pipes 10 in. long and of 1 516 in. outside diameter. Estimate thepower required to overcome air drag on these two supports withthe sign facing forward.
