Chapter 13, Problem 13.65

(choose chapter or problem)

The 60-MHz proton NMR spectrum of 2,2,3,3- tetrachlorobutane consists of a sharp singlet at 25 C, but at 245 C consists of two singlets of different intensities separated by about 10 Hz. (a) Explain the changes in the spectrum as a function of temperature. (b) Explain why the two lines observed at low temperature have different intensities.
