Fantastic university, beautiful campus, supportive and fabulous professors, and very diverse student body. Starbucks or Tim Hortons on the main route through campus is great. Do note, having class in Mackenzie then next class in Southam is brutal but easily doable (up hill and 10 minutes to get there) ...Continue reading

Carleton is pretty rad The location, right on the Rideau, is amazing (sunrise is beautiful). The cafeteria has food that's above average as far as cafeteria food goes and there are plenty of other places on and around campus to eat. There are also really great profs here, so you'll learn a lot while having fun doing it. Also, great co-op. ...Continue reading

Having been to both OttawaU and Carleton I can say Carleton is by far the better school! In these fields it has a very strong international reputation. The biggest downfall is that the Uni has deeply inconsistent quality across disciplines, so you must know the reputation of the subject you are taking. ...Continue reading

It my last year so I think I know what I'm taking about. Expect a great number of your courses to be taught by contract instructors with varying levels of commitment. Some good some bad. Carleton is a great school. Degree value is highly dependent on program choice... like most comprehensive universities, Carleton diverts funds from meh programs into reputable programs. Go for a BA and you may very well never liquidize the value of your degree. Go for engineering and Carleton will make you king. It's got over 300 clubs and societies, interesting courses, and the Greek life is phenomenal. ...Continue reading

The Fresh Food Company has really bad food. It is located all in one spot which makes it feel like a little island. The nature around it makes it feel very nurturing and peaceful. Take it from an upper year student, choose your program wisely. The issue is really with the city which dies down way too fast in the winter. Kind of becomes a little too creepy for anyone wanting to go out. Otherwise, as a campus, nature here is beautiful. Go for a run during the early fall semester or through the summer and you'll see. Or skate down the canal and you'll love it! The academic advising center will really help you out. I don't know of any other university that is willing to help BA students become BEng or BSc students. They will really help you get the requirements you need to move to the better faculties and programs. ...Continue reading

Prof Ali may be hard to understand sometimes (do the readings ahead and sit near the front), but he is great! Classes are lecture based followed by a documentary screening. doesnt matter if you go to his class because you won't understand anything! I dont think he himself understands what he is talking about. Fails to explain the material and will confuse you even more. If you are stuck with his class, just read the book, and you are gonna do well. He can easily ruin your macro basic otherwise. Bad lecturer! ...Continue reading

Reads directly from slides, and goes over material rather quickly. Does provide practice exams, but no other practice questions making it difficult to understand how to apply the theories. Iain is a good professor, in terms of describing the material well in class. He does that very well however, his slides are one word points. If you miss a class, you are screwed. Also, if you aren't a good note-taker, then he isn't your best option. Aside from that, a good lecturer. ...Continue reading

Jeffrey Monaghan. If you have the chance, look into his career! He has an exceptional amount of depth. He has published many journals and been involved with crazy legal issues. Prof Ali may be hard to understand sometimes (do the readings ahead and sit near the front), but he is great! Classes are lecture based followed by a documentary screening. Not only is he is a generous marker but the review he gives for the midterm preps you extremely well! He is also VERY understanding when it comes to late/missed assignments. ...Continue reading

I was absolutely dreading taking stats but she did her best to make the class understandable and straight forward. She makes complicated concepts easy to understand and gives LOTS of examples that she will work out with you in class and clarify whatever you need. She wants her students to do well and made my stats experience almost enjoyable. ...Continue reading

Statistics is rough for me and for a lot of other students, but is necessary.
