Best public university in the world. I'm working twice as hard for worse grades than I received in high school, but the skills I'm learning are invaluable. This school has everything if you are willing to do a little (or a lot of) work. ...Continue reading

Cal has some thought-provoking classes. It definitely made me a more open-minded and compassionate person. Getting those A's are difficult-- not enough return for the amount of work I have to put in. B's are easier to get. Socially, I made great friends and I hung out enough to have a life outside of class. Food sucks on campus btw. ...Continue reading

UC Berkeley is a very bright and alive campus at day, but can be dangerous at night. Great memories I have with this school. Classes are tough generally but what do you expect from Berkeley? Tons of research opportunities and extracurricular activities. Intelligent and hardworking student population who also know how to throw amazing parties on the weekend. Beautiful campus. Lots of student activism. ...Continue reading

Choosing UC Berkeley has been the best decision of my life. It is an amazing school. But if you are an older student like myself, with kids (that are teens) its tougher to fit in and make connections. There is prejudice against transfer students from the 'regular' admits. Activities are geared towards 'traditional' students w/o kids. Introduce yourself to professorslecturers & graduate student instructors early on and you'll thank yourself for it. Also, tons of opportunities to explore your interests outside of the lecture hall. Cal is great choice for mature students and JC transfers . I was both. GO BEARS!! ...Continue reading

Stressful but classes are great for a large majority of the time. On the other hand, it's also public and a large school, so you definitely will not be babied. The grade deflation here is also much worse than at other schools, and even more so than some higher-ranked schools. As a result, we are forced to try our best, and at times compete with others. ...Continue reading

Got into UCLA and Cal. I chose Cal so I can commute and save money. The bay area is okay. It's nice having both SF and the hills. There are some nice, fun groups on campus, but for some reason I've found that classes are not the place to make friends, except during summer courses, when people are a bit nicer and relaxed. It was my dream to come here and no one was honest with me. I've been miserable here. I don't feel supported here aand I'm so unhappy. It is dificult to find your people here. Lives up to its reputation. You meet so many different types of people and really expand the way you think about sociopolitical issues. I love that most people here want to make the world a better place. Also, the city has great food. ...Continue reading

1st, off-campus food is GREAT. I'm in the Anthropology department and have been able to work on a lot of research projects as an undergraduate in and out of my department (something a lot of Universities don't offer). But I've heard that to be the case with most other schools. ...Continue reading

I came in as a 3rd year transfer and was ecstatic. I feel constantly inspired by my classes, professors and classmates. I would say that its a little hard to find a cohesive group of friends, just because you make so many different friends from so many different aspects of your life, but if you put yourself out there, you'll be fine. Overall--GO BEARS! It's the best public university in the world! Only downside is the location. Too many homeless around the campus. It's dangerous to walk home at night. But I guess perfect NorCal weather and a myriad of good local restaurants make up for it. ...Continue reading

Berkeley is an AMAZING school. It is challenging, but already from my first semester, I have noticed great personal growth and maturity. Academically, I feel my boundaries and ways of thinking are being stretched! There are boundless opportunities for motivated students. People are helpful and friendly if you reach out. I will never regret my decision to attent Cal! ...Continue reading

Vibrant and lively, filled with motivated students. The campus is incredibly politically active, and there are so many ways to fight for what you believe in. The opportunities are endless if you take the time to look! Classes are very difficult, and grade deflation is truly real, but if learn to balance your time you can get through it. ...Continue reading

It's very competitive and cut throat here but at the same time the atmosphere is beautiful. I felt smart before I came here but now I feel out of place, even dumb. However, I am taking difficult courses and it is easy to get down on myself. I believe that I can reach my full potential here, if I don't give up along the way! ...Continue reading

Dr. Le is such a cool and funny man! PH15 is mostly taught with guest lecturers, so attendance is necessary. Don't underestimate the difficulty of this class! Dr. Le challenges your ideas/ thoughts on medical ethics. Worth taking if you're interested in the health field. Weekly reflections (1 pg), 1 midterm, 1 group presentation, and the final ...Continue reading

Professor Nachman is the sweetest. He's a great lecturer and cares a lot about his field. He is pretty funny and very charming, and communicates course material well. However, his tests are fairly difficult, although not unfair. They are fair exams but tricky in how the questions are written. But overall, he is a great guy and a great teacher. ...Continue reading
