I love it here at ODU! It seems they are spending money on upgrading the university all the time. I wish the presence of Greek life was better stronger but overall happy for coming here. It's an urban area, no duh there's going to be crime. I've been here 3 years and I have never felt unsafe. Most professors will go above and beyond to help you. Younger students need to stop slacking off and get their act together before they start saying negative things about the university. GO ODU! ...Continue reading

ODU is a very beautiful school. Campus is nice and food will be a lot better once the new dining hall opens up. The area around the school is not safe but you should have no problems if you stay on campus. ...Continue reading

It's kind of dead on campus during weekends, lots of commuters and people living off campus, keep your car doors locked though, and there is the occasional drive by shooting in the surrounding neighborhoods but i love it here and would not give it away for anything. Professors very involved in your success. They want you to graduate! ...Continue reading

The only ABET certified school in the tidewater area (south eastern Virginia). The area is a bit sketchy, but I would bike from Ghent and that wasn't too bad. Norfolk overall is a nice city, and you're close to Virginia Beach. However, the area directly outside ODU is not great and housing around there is hard to find. Professors are not bad, some seem a little un-inspired. Not a destination school ...Continue reading

You are lucky if you find advisors and/or staff who are happy to help you. The campus security is there to make money, not protect the students. The administration has upped the costs of tickets and tuition ridiculously. The administration is taking away parking from commuters and is focusing on residents. Low level class teachers are horrible, but upper level are fantastic. ...Continue reading

Odu is what you make of it Some of the professors that I have had thus far are very good teachers. One thing though, the surrounding neighborhood is quite dangerous...especially at night and on the weekend. The police are doing the best that they can, but you have to watch your step. However, when one becomes a Monarch it is something that is not taken lightly. It slowly, but surely, becomes more of an honor as time passes regardless of how iffy some aspects of the school are. ...Continue reading

Parking is always an issue, there is constant crime based on its location, campus environment is well groomed and cleanbut not as flattering compared to colleges up North in Virginia. As an adult commuter have had nothing but problems: lack of parking, technological resources, not enough instructors and class times (mostly Tue, Thu all at the same time), half the instructors are technologically challenged, not safe in the evening. I came here knowing the it was diverse & what you made of it, but honestly my experience has been awful. Come to this school if you like to party. The student body is so huge so i understand why a lot of people say it kinda feels like a community college. I haven't really had a chance to meet people and have the college experience i wanted. can't wait to get outta here. Parking is always an issue, there is constant crime based on its location, campus environment is well groomed and cleanbut not as flattering compared to colleges up North in Virginia. If you live here or in the military, ODU is an accessible institution. Perhaps because I'm a student in his mid-20s, nothing here flatters me. ...Continue reading

It's a pretty good school While counseling is really awesome-technology lags far behind even the two year local college. TNCC beats them by a landslide. There are no accessible computers or keyboards in the library! NONE!!! WHY!?? Also, on busy days you have to go upstairs to the slow and old computers with fuzzy screens. Frequent student deaths, crime, robbery. ...Continue reading

All of the offices have not been helpful and borderline rude, my academic advisors were NO HELP AT ALL. I really felt like I was on my own here. Oh, and Norfolk is horrible! I'm transferring ASAP ...Continue reading

Although the ODU police force won't keep you safe, the rest of campus is gorgeous, new buildings and ideas are springing up and the university is expanding. You need to make an effort to succeed. The only real issue I've had is with the traffic and parking, but this is to be expected since ODU is 10 minutes away from the Naval Base. Overall, I have really enjoyed ODU and look forward to my last 2 years as an undergraduate and 1 year as a graduate student. ...Continue reading

GO MONARCHS. Norfolk is kinda of crappy. ODU is pretty much a commuter school cause its right in the middle of Hampton Roads. But the old dorms suck. The campus is really nice and pretty. I loved this campus and was sad to leave the Psych and Pre-Med departments. Im from New Jersey and ODU is safer than most schools in Jersey besides Princeton.
