Chapter 4, Problem 56

(choose chapter or problem)

A ball is thrown with an initial speed vi at an angle uiwith the horizontal. The horizontal range of the ballis R, and the ball reaches a maximum height R/6. Interms of R and g, find (a) the time interval duringwhich the ball is in motion, (b) the balls speed at thepeak of its path, (c) the initial vertical component ofits velocity, (d) its initial speed, and (e) the angle ui.(f) Suppose the ball is thrown at the same initial speedfound in (d) but at the angle appropriate for reachingthe greatest height that it can. Find this height.(g) Suppose the ball is thrown at the same initial speedbut at the angle for greatest possible range. Find thismaximum horizontal range.
