(choose chapter or problem)

This problem describes oneexperimental method for determiningthe moment of inertiaof an irregularly shaped objectsuch as the payload for a satellite.Figure P10.56 shows acounterweight of mass m suspendedby a cord woundaround a spool of radius r,forming part of a turntable supportingthe object. The turntablecan rotate without friction. When the counterweightis released from rest, it descends through adistance h, acquiring a speed v. Show that the momentof inertia I of the rotating apparatus (including theturntable) is mr2(2gh/v 2 2 1).
