Chapter 2, Problem 4

(choose chapter or problem)

Two batteries, with voltages \(V_{1} \text { and } V_{2}\), are connected in series. The total voltage V is given by \(V=V_{1}+V_{2}\). Assume that \(V 1\) has mean \(12 \mathrm{~V}\) and standard deviation \(1 \mathrm{~V}\), and that \(V_{2}\) has mean 6 V and standard deviation \(0.5 \mathrm{~V}\)

a. Find \(\mu_{v}\).

b. Assuming \(V_{1} \text { and } V_{2}\) to be independent, find \(\sigma_{v}\).
