Chapter 5, Problem 66

(choose chapter or problem)

Suppose that a swimming pool has \(500\) gallons of water in it when a valve is turned on that feeds \(150\) gallons of water into the pool each minute.

(a) Letting \(m\) represent the number of minutes after the valve is opened and letting \(N\) represent the number of gallons of water in the pool, write an equation relating \(m\) and \(N\).

(b) Sketch the graph of the equation obtained in part (a), representing m along the horizontal axis.

(c) Find the slope of the line graphed in part (b) and relate it to the equation obtained in part (a).
