Chapter 7, Problem 7.3

(choose chapter or problem)

The thermodynamic sound speed c is defined in Sec. 7.1. Prove that:

\(c = √\frac {VC_{P}}{ℳC_{V}κ}\)

where V is molar volume and ℳ is molar mass. To what does this general result reduce for: (a) an ideal gas? (b) an incompressible liquid? What do these results suggest qualitatively about the speed of sound in liquids relative to gases?

Text Transcription:

c = √VC_P / ℳC_Vκ
