Chapter 2, Problem 2.37

(choose chapter or problem)

Carbon dioxide gas enters a water-cooled compressor at conditions \(P_{1} = 1 bar\) and \(T_{1} = 10°C\), and is discharged at conditions \(P_{2} = 36 bar\) and \(T_{2} = 90°C\). The entering \(CO_{2}\) flows through a 10-cm-diameter pipe with an average velocity of \(10 m \cdot s^{−1}\), and is discharged through a 3-cm-diameter pipe. The power supplied to the compressor is \(12.5 kJ \cdot mol^{−1}\) What is the heat-transfer rate from the compressor?

\(H_{1} = 21.71 kJ \cdot mol^{−1}\)

\(V_{1} = 23.40 L \cdot mol^{−1}\)

\(H_{2} = 23.78 kJ \cdot mol^{−1}\)

\(V_{2} = 0.7587 L \cdot mol^{−1}\)

Text Transcription:

P_1 = 1 bar

T_1 = 10°C

P_2 = 36 bar

T_2 = 90°C

CO_2

10 m cdot s^−1

12.5 kJ cdot mol^−1

H_1 = 21.71 kJ cdot mol^−1

V_1 = 23.40 L cdot mol^−1

H_2 = 23.78 kJ cdot mol^−1

V_2 = 0.7587 L cdot mol^−1
