If the free end of spring k1 is suddenly displaced through the distance x 5 a, as shown in part b, determine the maximum displacement y of the weight. Let W 5 5 lbf, k1 5 10 lbf/in, k2 5 20 lbf/in, and a 5 0.25 in. Ignore the mass of each spring and solve using energy conservation.
