QUESTION:

If you were in a car that drove off the edge of a cliff, why would you be momentarily weightless? Would gravity still be acting on you?

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 2

If you were in a car that drove off the edge of a cliff, from the moment the car doesn't have a support ground it will start to free fall due to gravity.

Gravity is acting on the car at all times, when the car had the support ground we would put our weight on a seat and the seat would act on us with the same force but in the opposite direction (Newton’s third law).
