Chapter 17, Problem 17.16

(choose chapter or problem)

(II) A typical car has 17 L of liquid coolant circulating at atemperature of 93C through the engines cooling system.Assume that, in this normal condition, the coolantcompletely fills the 3.5-L volume of the aluminum radiatorand the 13.5-L internal cavities within the steel engine. When a car overheats, the radiator, engine, and coolantexpand and a small reservoir connected to the radiatorcatches any resultant coolant overflow. Estimate how muchcoolant overflows to the reservoir if the system is heatedfrom 93 C to 105C. Model the radiator and engine ashollow shells of aluminum and steel, respectively. The coefficientof volume expansion for coolant is (3 = 410 X 10 6/ C.
