(Ill) A constant-volume gas thermometer is being used todetermine the temperature of the melting point of asubstance. The pressure in the thermometer at this temperatureis 218 torr; at the triple point of water, the pressure is286 torr. Some gas is now released from the thermometerbulb so that the pressure at the triple point of waterbecomes 163 torr. At the temperature of the meltingsubstance, the pressure is 128 torr. Estimate, as accurately aspossible, the melting-point temperature of the substance.
