Over a certain temperature interval, the saturation

Chapter 11, Problem 11.40

(choose chapter or problem)

Over a certain temperature interval, the saturation pressure–temperature curve of a substance is represented by an equation of the form ln \(p_{\text {sat }}=\) A - B/T, where A and B are empirically determined constants.

(a) Obtain expressions for \(h_{\mathrm{g}}-h_{\mathrm{f}} \text { and } s_{\mathrm{g}}-s_{\mathrm{f}}\) in terms of p–v–T data and the constant B.

(b) Using the results of part (a), calculate \(h_{\mathrm{g}}-h_{\mathrm{f}} \text { and } s_{\mathrm{g}}-s_{\mathrm{f}}\) for water vapor at \(25^{\circ} \mathrm{C}\) and compare with steam table data.
