A 60.0-kg reghter slides down a pole while a constant

Chapter 13, Problem 13.66

(choose chapter or problem)

A 60.0-kg reghter slides down a pole while a constant frictional force of 300N retards his motion. A horizontal 20.0-kg platform is supported by a spring at the bottom of the pole to cushion the fall. The reghter starts from rest 5.00m above the platform, and the spring constant is 2500 N/m. Find (a) the reghters speed just before he collides with the platform and (b) the maximum distance the spring is compressed. Assume that the frictional force acts during the entire motion. [Hint: The collision between the reghter and the platform is perfectly inelastic.]
