Chapter , Problem 22

(choose chapter or problem)

A 20-kg block hangs from a spring with spring constant k = 180 N>m. The block oscillates in a fluid that produces resistance with a damping constant c = 80 kg>s. The support of the spring vibrates and produces an external force of Fext = 3 sin t. Assume the initial position of the block is one meter above the equilibrium position and it is released with zero initial velocity. a. Find and graph the position of the block after it is released. b. Identify the transient and steady-state solutions, and graph them separately. c. After approximately how many seconds does the transient solution become negligible?
