Chapter 9, Problem 20E

(choose chapter or problem)

20. For the coupled mass–spring system governed by system (10), assume

\(m_{1}=m_{2}=1 k g, k_{1}=k_{2}=k_{3}=1 N / m\), and assume initially that

\(x_{1}(0)=0 m, x_{1}^{\prime}(0)=(0) m / s e c\), \(x_{2}(0)=2 m, \text { and } x_{2}(0)=0 \mathrm{~m} / \mathrm{sec}\) . Using matrix algebra techniques, solve this initial value problem.

m1=m2=1kg, k1=k2=k3=1N/m

x1(0)=0 m, x'1(0)=(0) m/sec

x2(0)=2m, and x2(0)=0 m/sec
