QUESTION:

Problem 15SEQ

Explain answer clearly, with complete sentences and proper essay structure if needed.

Galaxies at Great Distances. The most distant galaxies that astronomers have observed are much easier to see in infrared light than in visible light. Explain why this is the case.

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 2

We have to discuss the usefulness of  infrared light over visible light in seeing the distant galaxies.

It is easier to see through infrared light than visible interstellar dust which otherwise blocks the visible light. This is because infrared light penetrates the interstellar dust and there is no absorption or scattering of the infrared light by the dust. So, we can see the objects which would normally blocked from our view.
