Chapter , Problem 86

(choose chapter or problem)

A high-voltage supply can be constructed from a variablecapacitor with interleaving plates which can be rotated as inFig. 24-36. A version of this type of capacitor with moreplates has a capacitance which can be varied from 10 pF tolpF. (a) Initially, this capacitor is charged by a 7500-Vpower supply when the capacitance is 8.0 pF. It is thendisconnected from the power supply and the capacitancereduced to 1.0 pF by rotating the plates. What is the voltageacross the capacitor now? (b) What is a major disadvantageof this as a high-voltage power supply?
