Two lines are perpendicular to each other when they meet

Chapter 7, Problem 7.1.48

(choose chapter or problem)

Two lines are perpendicular to each other when they meet at a right angle (a 90 angle). Two lines are perpendicular when their slopes are negative reciprocals. The negative reciprocal of 2 is -1 2, the negative reciprocal of 3 5 is -1>1 3 52 or -5 3, and so on. If a represents any real number, except 0, its negative reciprocal is -1/a. Note that the product of a number and its negative reciprocal is -1. In Exercises 4750, determine, by finding the slope of each line, whether the lines will be perpendicular to each other when graphed.4y - x = 6 y = x + 8
