In a traveling electromagnetic wave, the electric fi eld
Chapter , Problem 5(choose chapter or problem)
In a traveling electromagnetic wave, the electric fi eld is represented mathematically as E 5 E0 sin [(1.5 3 1010 s21 )t 2 (5.0 3 101 m21 )x] where E0 is the maximum fi eld strength. This equation is an adaptation of Equation 16.3. (a) What is the frequency of the wave? (b) This wave and the wave that results from its refl ection can form a standing wave, in a way similar to that in which standing waves can arise on a string (see Section 17.5). What is the separation between adjacent nodes in the standing wave?
