Assume that, when the brakes are applied, a constant frictional force is exerted on the wheels of a car by the road. If that is so, then which of the following are necessarily true? (a) The distance the car travels before coming to rest is proportional to the speed of the car just as the brakes are first applied, (b) the cars kinetic energy diminishes at a constant rate, (c) the kinetic energy of the car is inversely proportional to the time that has elapsed since the application of the brakes, (d) none of the above.
