If a rock is attached to a massless, rigid rod and swung
Chapter , Problem 10(choose chapter or problem)
If a rock is attached to a massless, rigid rod and swung in a vertical circle (Figure 7-36) at a constant speed, the total mechanical energy of the rock-Earth system does not remain constant. The kinetic energy of the rock remains constant, but the gravitational potential energy is continually changing. Is the total work done on the rock equal to zero during all time intervals? Does the force by the rod on the rock ever have a nonzero tangential component?
