Chapter , Problem 38

(choose chapter or problem)

A particle that has mass and is near Earths surface, at which can be described by the potential energy function in the region and by in the region Sketch a graph of versus For some positive value of total energy indicate the classically allowed region on the graph and plot the classical kinetic energy versus on the graph. The Schrdinger equation for this problem is quite difficult to solve. Using arguments similar to those in Section 35-2 about the concavity of the wave function as given by the Schrdinger equation, sketch the shape of the wave function for the ground state and for the first two excited states.
