The optical spectra of atoms that have two electrons in the same highest energy shell are similar, but they are quite different from the spectra of atoms that have just one electron in the highest energy shell because of the interaction of the two electrons. Group the elements according to similar spectra: lithium, beryllium, sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, chromium, nickel, cesium, and barium.
