College students by state. In Exercise 2.21 (page 99) you used a scatterplot to display the relationship between the number of undergraduates and the populations of the states. (a) What is the correlation between these two variables? (b) Does the correlation give a good numerical summary of the relationship between these two variables? Explain your answer. (c) Eliminate the four states with populations greater than 15 million and find the correlation for the other 46 ARMSTR states. How does this correlation differ from the one that you found in part (a)? What does this tell you about howthe range of the values of the variables in a data set canaffect the magnitude of a correlation?
