Bootstrap comparison of average reading abilities. Table 7.4 (page 452) gives the scores on a test of reading ability for two groups of third-grade students. The treatment group used directed reading activities and the control group followed the same curriculum without the activities. (a) Bootstrap the difference in means x1 x2 and report the bootstrap standard error. (b) Inspect the bootstrap distribution. Is a bootstrap t confidence interval appropriate? If so, give a 95% confidence interval. (c) Compare the bootstrap results with the two-sample t confidence interval reported in Example 7.14 on page 453.
