Suppose n is a positive integer written in the form n = ak3k + ak–13k–1 + ·· · + a13 + a0, where each of the ai’s is 0, 1, or 2 (the base 3 representative of n). Show that n is even if and only if ak + ak–1 + ··· + a1 + a0 is even.
